Amazing Aloe

For centuries around the world, from Egypt to India, we’ve harnessed the power of plants for their beauty, health and wellness properties, creating remedies for every ailment and cosmetic need under the sun. From healing and soothing to moisturising and even anti-ageing, there’s one plant whose celebrated health and beauty benefits earned it the title of the ‘plant of immortality’ by the ancient Egyptians and became a mainstay of Ayurvedic medicine. This wonder plant is the humble aloe vera.

Aloe vera’s multipurpose benefits are thanks to two hormones, auxin and gibberellins, which each possess anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce skin inflammation, swelling and redness; soothing, calming and healing ailments ranging from sunburn to psoriasis. The magic lies in the leaves of the aloe plant, which when broken off, secrete a clear gel that can be applied directly to wounds and inflamed skin, bringing instant relief and long lasting-benefits.

We use aloe vera for its healing and anti-inflammatory powers in a wide range of our products. Here are my favourites:

Soothing and calming, aloe vera was the natural choice to use in our After Sun to help cool skin after time in the sun. It helps to create a protective healing and moisturising layer on parched or burnt skin, working on a cellular level to rebalance moisture levels and rehydrate. We also developed our mineral sunscreens with aloe to repair, hydrate and nourish skin, keeping it soft, supple and safe in the sun.

The two hormones found in aloe vera gel help to reduce skin inflammation and allow the skin to heal. Our best-selling Herbal Toner with aloe vera revitalises and awakens skin, firming and toning, and infusing it with moisture to keep it in perfect condition. It also prepares skin for the next step – moisturisation.

Aloe vera also contains a powerful cocktail of antioxidants including vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene which help improve skin firmness and moisture levels, essential elements to keep our skin in tip-top condition as it ages. Our Antioxidant Face Gel and Antioxidant Face Serum are both formulated with aloe, along with herbal extracts, marine algae, sea minerals and cosmeceuticals to lift and minimise pores, mop up free radicals and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

We also use aloe vera in our Lifting Eye Gel to infuse and protect the delicate eye area with soothing moisture helping to reduce puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles and leaving eyes refreshed, toned and revitalised.

And to help rebalance the system, from aiding constipation to treating gum disease, the aloe vera plant can help. Its antiseptic and nutrient-rich make-up contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes, sugars, amino acid and anthraquinones and saponins, all essential to healing internal issues. Simply drink the fresh juice or steep a chunk in water to feel the benefits.
